Welcome back! We hope that you had an excellent Easter break and you are ready for an exciting summer term! SATs week will begin on the 13th of May and will take place over four days. Breakfast club will be provided for all Year 6 children for these days.
In English this term we will be finding out about the lives of our favourite famous people and writing biographies about them. Later in the term we will be studying Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’. We will be using this text to support our writing lessons. We plan to focus on teaching grammatical skills and creating individual pieces of writing across different genres. Spelling is as important as ever. We will continue to ask the children to learn spelling patterns, as well as the Year 5 and 6 Spelling List. We would appreciate any support with learning spellings at home.
Maths lessons will continue to follow the National Curriculum and will be in four differentiated groups. This term we will be focusing on improving reasoning and problem solving skills. It is important that children continue to revise and embed mathematical understanding by practising at home, learning times tables and memorising key facts.
Our topics for this term are; The Human Body, Rivers, The Maya Civilisation and Fairgrounds. After SATs, the children will be producing independent projects based on some of these areas.
All classes will have PE on Mondays and Fridays. Please ensure your child has the correct kit on these days.
Please continue to work with your child at home and support them with their learning, especially in the build-up to SATs.
Miss O’Hara, Mr Enright, Miss Foreman and Mr Chandler.
