Week 1

Being Healthy!

If we were at school, we would be learning about all the different ways we keep ourselves healthy. We will begin by looking at healthy foods. Please listen to the story Oliver’s fruit salad, and complete the fun activities to help children understand the importance of healthy eating. Over the next few weeks we will explore different things that help our bodies grow and stay healthy, and continue to update the web page so keep an eye on it every week!

We understand if you cannot do all the tasks below- please choose what is best for you and your family.

Literacy

Listen to this story “Oliver’s Fruit Salad”                               https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcTprkImlmI                                                    Can you draw some of the fruit from the story?

Have you been writing your name? The letter formation sheet attached will help you form the letters. Don’t forget to start your name with a capital. You could write it on paper, in some paint, in a sandpit with a stick etc, Why don't you send us a photo!

Go on an alliteration hunt! – look around your house and find groups of 3 objects that have the same start sound.

Eg- socks, scissors, soap or tissues, tape, towel etc.                                              Take picture of what you find!

Maths

Fruit Sorting Activity- complete the attached sheet, cutting out the fruit pictures and sorting them according to their size. You may want to sort 3 pictures first, then add more as your child understands the concept.  You could try this with real objects at home as well- for example order all your toy cars.

Go for a walk or search in your backyard (be mindful of current government guidelines) for nature items. For example - find 1 flower, 2 rocks, 3 leaves, 4 sticks 5 seeds etc. Write the numeral to go with each group of items. EXTRA CHALLENGE- ask your child to copy the numeral.

Learn the song of the week  - 10 red apples!                             https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PW7_HUY1vkY

Physical Development                                                                                                Make a simple fruit salad, using fruit have available at home. It could be just 2 different types. Involve your child as much as possible to prepare the fruit- to cut, peel, use a spoon to stir, serve out the fruit for everyone. Don’t forget to wash your hands before you cook (: We would love to see photos of your child being involved!

Complete the healthy/ unhealthy food sorting activity attached. If you do not have access to a printer, you could draw some of your own pictures to cut out and sort into two groups.

We will be exploring the importance of exercise in the next few weeks. For now, can you pass a ball to each other in different ways- bounce, roll, throw etc. encourage your child to keep their eye on the ball.

Understanding the world- where fruit comes from!

Have a look at this quirky little video to show where fruits (and vegetables!) come from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdPRZ3wjCxA

Discuss with your child- what fruits did you see? Were they the same as the ones in the story about Oliver or were there some different ones?                                      What fruit do you have at home? What does it taste like? What does it smell like? What words can you think of?
