VE Day - 75 year anniversary
This Friday, 8th May, is a day we remember the end of World War 2, which came to an end 75 years ago.
Bedfont was lucky enough to be directly beneath the fly-past by the Red Arrows - Mr Field managed to capture this amazing video:
At 6pm this Friday, join audiences from homes around the world for a very special event. For the first time ever, the Royal Albert Hall will play host to a concert behind closed doors, to be streamed at home, as we join the nation in marking the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

VE day podcast story: History Storytime - VE Day 75th Anniversary
Click on the link above or the file at the bottom of the page to listen to a podcast from History Storytime, which sees Sophie and Ellie tell the story of VE Day celebrations 75 years ago. They are missing out this year because of the Coronavirus. They had been planning a VE Day street party, but now they are trapped at home. So, with their Daddy, they tell the story of the VE Day celebrations.
They learn how awful World War 2 had been. They understand just how relieved ordinary people were to put it all behind them. They get swept up in the VE Day Party atmosphere of 75 years ago.
The episode offers a great way to introduce our children to the importance of VE day in our national memory. We were supposed to be having a national holiday and a series of events to mark it, however the current lockdown means we'll be remembering in our own ways.
