Bedfont Primary School uses " Letters and Sounds" to teach children phonics.
You can read more about Phonics here: https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/parents/what-is-phonics In The Nursery, we focus on Phase One of Letters and Sounds which concentrates on developing children's speaking and listening skills and prepares them to learn letter sounds. The emphasis during Phase 1 is to tune children into the sounds around them and ensure they are ready to begin developing oral blending and segmenting skills ( Please see attached for some phase 1 games) Phase 1 is divided into seven aspects. You can read about them here: http://www.letters-and-sounds.com/phase-1.html
Phonicsplay is just one website that helps children to learn phoncis and has some fun games on it for children to play to help them develop their listening ear. They are offering free membership during this time with the following details:

SOUND OF THE WEEK - i
Watch this video to hear the short sound 'i' on its own and in words.
- What objects can you think of beginning with the letter sound i? Go on a hunt around your house to see if you can find some different objects beginning with this sound and take photos of the different things that you have found.
- Practise forming the letter i – can you from it on a piece of paper? In the air? On the ground? in some paint? With a stick in some mud or sand? Use your finger first and then practise forming it using a pencil or pen!
Play a game!
- encourage your child to begin to 'segment' the letter sounds in words then 'blend them together and say the word. for example -"t/i/p- tip"
- Why don't you have a go at this game- use "set one + i"
We would love to see any photos you take - please send them to the class email or upload them to tapestry!
