Welcome to Duckling Nursery
Happy New Year to you all. We hope you and your families had a wonderful break over the festive period. We look forward to welcoming all of the children back for the first term of 2018.
Our Spring term topic is “How does that building stay up?” Each of us lives in our own unique environment; where do you live? What is your home like? What type of home do your friends and family live in? What do homes look like in different parts of the world?
We will be learning about different homes from around the world and comparing these with those of our own. We will be discovering and exploring different homes, and what materials have been used to build these homes. We will read the story of “The Three Little Pigs” to help support the children’s understanding of the use of different types of materials used to build homes. The children will build their own individual home based upon their learning.
To include mathematical learning into this terms theme, we will use different sized buildings to help develop the children’s understanding and language of, different sizes and continue to support their counting skills in their own building work. As part of our approach to phonics, the children will start to learn letter sounds. The sounds this term will be “s”, “a” and “t”. To support your child’s development in learning these sounds please visit Cued Articulation.
This is a system used to help children quickly become familiar with the signs and to help them remember the sounds. The link below explains how it works.
Talk to your child about your home and other homes when you are out and about and help them to understand that different homes and buildings are built differently and come in all shapes and sizes.
