Curriculum and learning
At Bedfont Primary School we aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that meets the needs of all pupils.
Children in our Nursery and Reception classes follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework which is statutory. We ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. We aim to give them the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life. More information can be found at www.foundationyears.org.uk. We use the non statutory Developing Matters guidance and support learning through projects such as "Every Child a Talker".
Pupils in Years 1-6 follow the National Curriculum https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/national-curriculum-in-england-primary-curriculum. In addition to the National Curriculum the school is also required to teach RE (religious education). Daily discrete teaching of phonics takes place throughout the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1, following the Letters and Sounds programme. We recommend that you visit this website, which is full of excellent guidance and resources http://www.lesleyclarkesyntheticphonics.co.uk
Guided reading takes place throughout the school using "Bug Club" (which pupils can access from home) and a wide range of other reading schemes. We use Accelerated Reader in Years 4, 5 and 6.
