Bedfont Primary School

Primary School

A big warm welcome to Reception– whether you know the school well or you are just joining the school, to all we say welcome.

This half term is “Do you Want to be Friends?” which is all about the children getting to know their new environment and the people around them, and getting used to school life! We will be learning how to work together and remember our class promises which help to guide our classrooms. They are:

We use our walking feet

We use quiet voices

We put our hands up to speak

We share with our friends

We help to tidy up

We are kind to each other

We are encouraging the children to share, ask questions and talk about their actions, discover new things in the room, focus on activities for 5-10 minutes at a time, begin to hold their pencil correctly and of course making sure they are happy to be at school ! As they begin to have school dinners, staff will be on hand to support them to eat, and we will let you know if we think they are not eating enough. Even the fussiest of eaters usually begin to start trying new things!

We encourage you to be prompt in bringing your child to school, and ensure your child is in bed at a reasonable hour so they are ready and happy to learn.

We do love parent input into topics and will often send home activities for your child to complete, or let you know ways you can contribute to their learning. Sometimes this is as simple as bringing in empty food boxes for the home corner. When we ask for things like pictures or photos, they can be emailed to:‚Äč

The above emails are not for direct communication with staff. Please do contact staff by ringing the office directly. We are always happy to meet with you however it is best to have a quick chat at the end of the day so we can prioritise the children in the morning as they come into the classroom.

We are looking forward to working with you and your children this year.

Cued Articulation

This is a system we use to support our teaching of phonics.  Children quickly become familiar with the signs and it helps them to remember the sounds. The link below explains how it works.

At Bedfont Primary School we follow a scheme called Letters and Sounds. There are several phases in which sounds are taught. Phases 2 and 3 are taught in Reception.

Phase 2 consists of 5 sets:

Set 1: s, a, t, p
Set 2: i, n, m, d
Set 3: g, o, c, k
Set 4: ck, e, u, r
Set 5: h, b, f, ff, l, ll, ss

Phase 3:
