Welcome back! We hope that you had a relaxing summer holiday. It is very important that we start working towards SATs now, so every lesson counts!
In English this half term we have chosen a new text for the children to study – ‘The London Eye Mystery’. We will be using this text to support our Guided Reading and writing lessons. We plan to focus on teaching grammatical skills and using these in newspapers, biographies, narratives and non-fiction writing. Spelling is very important and weekly spelling will be sent home. We will look at these with the children in class and would appreciate any support with learning these at home.
Maths lessons will follow the National Curriculum and will be in five differentiated groups. There will be the possibility of movement between these groups at different stages of the year. This half term, we will be focusing on number and problem-solving skills.
Our topic is World War 2. We have planned a trip to the Imperial War Museum to enhance the children’s understanding and we will learn about the key events between 1939 and 1945. To celebrate our learning, we will be holding an exit point towards the end of the half term; you will be invited to attend.
Year 6 will be participating in the 2018 Heathrow Primary School Coding Challenge. This is an exciting opportunity for the children to learn new computing skills.
Each class will have PE on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please ensure your child has the correct kit on these days.
We look forward to meeting you at parents’ evening in October. You will need to book online for this. Please continue to work with your child at home and support them with their learning (Reading daily and mastering times tables will be essential.
