Welcome to Duckling Nursery

Welcome to Ducklings Nursery!

We hope you all had a wonderful winter holiday and are looking forward to the new school term.

Our teaching staff are Miss Goddard (Butterflies group leader), Mrs Redmayne-Todd (Ladybirds group leader Mon & Tues), Mrs Dhani (Ladybirds group leader Wed Thurs & Fri), Ms El Ghitaoui (Bees group leader AM) and Mrs Flynn (Bees group leader PM).

Our sessions run at the following times;

Morning sessions 8:40 – 11:40 am

Afternoon sessions 12:30 – 3:30 pm

Please bring your child in on time and collect promptly. This will help him / her settle into the Nursery routine. Please phone the office to let them know if you are going to be late. If someone is picking up your child from Nursery who is not on the “permission to collect” form then please phone the office so that we are aware, otherwise we will not be able to release your child.

If you wish to speak to a member of the Nursery team, please wait until the end of the day once all children have been released to parents – as we start our learning promptly as soon as the children arrive at Nursery.

Our Nursery email address for sending in photos and home learning is nursery@bedfont.hounslow.sch.uk

Please don’t forget to bring your box of tissues and £1 (for cooking and playdough) every term.

Kind regards,

The Nursery Team

Spring term topic:

Our Spring 1 term topic is “How does that building stay up?” Each of us lives in our own unique environment; where do you live? What is your home like? What type of home do your friends and family live in? What do homes look like in different parts of the world?

We will be talking about the different houses that we live in and making comparisons between different types of building. We will be discovering and exploring different buildings, and what materials have been used to build these buildings. We will read the story ‘The Three Little Pigs’ to help support the children’s understanding of the use of different types of materials used to build homes and the story ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ to talk about other things that we can build such as bridges.

To include mathematical learning into this theme, we will continue to work on our counting skills while counting bricks to make a tower, identify different 2d shapes within buildings, and begin to use the language of short and tall to compare buildings.

Our phonics continues with phase 1 of Letters and Sounds, where we will begin to explore rhyme, rhythm, alliteration and segmenting words into individual sounds.

Parent Support

Talk to your child about your home and other buildings that they can see when out and about. Encourage them to think about which materials might have been used to build this building and use descriptive language to talk about size, shape, colour.
